The Audi International Jazz Festival Phnom Penh announces its second edition

The Audi International Jazz Festival Phnom Penh announces its second editionThis year’s edition, which will be held from December 12th to 15th 2016, will welcome both international and Khmer artists. For the organizers, this is the opportunity to bring Jazz Music to a broader public, including the Cambodian youth, thanks to the local famous music label KlapYaHandz.

An exclusive jazzy night with pop Khmer artists

This year’s big surprise is to integrate pop Khmer artists to the program. They will be performing on Thursday night. “As Jazz is still relatively unknown in Cambodia, we decided to bring it to the audience through artists they already know and love” says Steven Gargadennec, the event’s founder and organizer. Nikki Nikki, Ma Champanha, Jimmy Kiss and Sofia Kao will be performing jazz for the first time. “It is a great challenge for them, but their voices are perfect for this kind of music. I am confident that we will deliver to the audience a beautiful moment of music”, adds Mr Gargadennec.

Turning Phnom Penh into a destination for internationally famous artists

After welcoming last year very renowned artists from around the world, this year’s edition will also greet its share of great foreign artists. Vladimir Cetkar Quartet, an ensemble led by a talented Macedonian-American artist, will open the ball with a dancy funky night at the Audi showroom. On Tuesday, the audience will get the chance to discover a Japanese trio led by famous pianist Yutaka Shiina, during a “chic” dinner-concert at the Raffles. The closing night will feature Sara Lazarus, an American singer that will be accompanied by an international band.

Cambodia and music, a never-ending love story

The organizing team has specifically chosen Cambodia for its long history of music and arts. “I have discovered a population with a natural fondness for the arts, and especially for music”, comments Steven Gargadennec. “Thanks to the support of Audi, we are very proud to bring such an event to the Kingdom”. After the difficult years that Cambodia has been through, the Audi International Jazz Festival Phnom Penh falls within all the local and foreign initiatives to bring international culture back to Cambodians.
