Cambodia Travel Mart Open for Business

Details of Cambodia’s inaugural travel mart have been unveiled at its official launch ceremony.

Cambodia Travel Mart (CTM) is set to take place in Siem Reap from Nov. 17 to 19, attracting more than 200 travel and tourism-related professionals from across the globe.

At a launch ceremony on Monday at NagaWorld, Tourism Minister Dr Thong Khon said: “The decision to launch CTM 2017 is the most reasonable time for Cambodia to integrate itself in the region, and the world, to demonstrate our abilities to compete with neighbouring countries and attract tourist growth in Cambodia.”

With the Ministry of Tourism having signed off on the event two years ago, it is finally making its debut, and there are high hopes that the annual event will help the country hit its goal of attracting more than seven million foreign visitors by 2020. In 2016, international tourists visiting Cambodia rose by five percent to five million, with 5.5 million predicted this year.

To date, more than 400 buyers have registered. These will be whittled down to about 200, with 80 percent from Asia-Pacific and the remainder from Europe.

More than 200 national and international sellers are also expected, alongside more than 50 media outlets.

Luu Meng, co-chairman of the Private Tourism Working Group, said: “I would encourage the industry to support this as it is a fantastic opportunity for Cambodia.”

The event also boasts a varied programme that takes in online business matching, trade seminars, pre- and post-show tours, exhibitions, friendly golf tournaments, workshops and a hosted dinner at one of Angkor’s temples.
