Italian Wine Evening at Raffles

Raffles, Pio Cesare, Distilleria Bottega, Barone Ricasoli and Red Apron bring a taste of Italy to Restaurant Le Royal on Mar. 20. A variety of wines from some of Italy’s oldest wineries have been carefully selected and a six-course meal has been specially designed by executive chef Steve Van Remoortel to compliment and highlight the qualities of each wine. Mr. Joel B Payne, the Brand Ambassador of Pio Cesare winery, will attend the dinner.

Nestling in the heart of Alba, Pio Cesare is a fifth generation winery in the Piemonte region in Italy. Its founder Cesare Pio was the first to realise and capitalise on the potential and quality of the wines from that region, among them the Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera varieties.

The Barone Ricasoli winery is the oldest in Italy, the Ricasoli name has links with wine dating back to 1141 when the Brolio castle passed into the family’s hands. In 1872 Baron Bettino Ricasoli, after 30 years of experimentation, perfected and formalised the formula for the now-famous Chianti variety, for which this specialist winery is famed.

Newest among the featured wineries, Distilleria Bottega has been producing grappa since the 1970s and fragolino since the 1990s. The founder, Aldo Bottega, was the first person to develop single-variety grappa and thanks to his innovative spirit the company rediscovered the art of fragolino.

Welcome cocktails at 6.30pm, dinner at 7pm.
