Le Moon Rooftop Lounge holds its internal bartender competition every three months, with the aim of showcasing the talent of their bartenders and allowing them to experiment and to express their creativity.
The management hope it will also pique their curiosity and improve their general knowledge of spirits and the art of mixology. The winner is rewarded with a cash prize.
Each competition has a specific theme or compulsory ingredient. Last quarter featured mangos to celebrate the fruit’s peak season. This quarter, the bartender mix-off promises something out of the ordinary. The unusual challenge is to create “hoptails” (beer cocktails) with the newly launched Tiger Crystal from sponsors Tiger Beer.
The competitions are run with the support of sponsors Giffard (Celliers d’Asie), a brand renowned for its syrups and liquors. For the occasion Giffard’s own cocktail expert, mixologist Vishnu Das, will be in attendance to put the bartenders through their paces and to guide their creative process.
The offerings are assessed by a jury of invited judges, drawn from the ranks of professionals from the hospitality and food and beverage industries. The cocktails are judged according to a variety of criteria: taste, balance, appearance, creativity, garnish, but there is also a technical assessment as to the way the bartenders behave, if they are professional in their mixing art, and so on.
The competition will take place at Le Moon Rooftop Lounge, above Amanjaya Hotel, Riverside, on Tuesday 9th of May from 4pm.
