Phare Circus adds three new shows
Cambodian circus troupe Phare is serving up three brand new shows in its big top tent this September. The popular circus, which puts on daily theatrical shows to an international standard, is adding Khmer Metal, Eclipse and The Adventure to its jam-packed programme.
Khmer Metal reflects on nightlife in modern Cambodia, Eclipse is a tale about discrimination, forgiveness and redemption, and The Adventure is a story about a life journey, struggle and hope. Continuing on from their already popular shows, Phare sees modern Cambodian tales embodied by a new generation of talented artists trained in Battambang.
The performances mix theatre, music, dance, acrobatics, juggling, aerial acts, fire eating and contortion with an explosion of virtuosity and sensitivity. Set in the heart of Siem Reap, Phare’s circus tent can seat 360 spectators and is specially designed to fulfill the acoustic needs of the live music performances. Spectators can enjoy a three-course set meals before and after the show with prior reservation in the Phare Café.
Phare artists are graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s vocational training centre in Battambang. Coming from vulnerable households, they gained international recognition through their art practice. The Cambodia Circus is a tool to build the careers of Cambodian artists, to contribute to the reviving of the Cambodian art scenes and to sustain the artistic, educational and social programs of the association.
