New Head of Communications and Design at RMIT Vietnam

An experienced leader in higher education across the art, design and media disciplines, Professor Rick Bennett, has joined RMIT Vietnam.

Professor Bennett will lead the University’s Centre of Communication and Design, with the vision to establish the centre’s profile across the region as one of the most desired education choices for creativity and innovation.

An alumnus of Bristol Polytechnic in the United Kingdom as well as Australia’s University of New South Wales and University of Sydney, Professor Bennett has had a highly successful academic career within the College of Fine Arts (COFA), the art, design and media faculty of the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Since 1994, Professor Bennett has written, managed, and taught into a range of art and design courses and programs at COFA as well as built an impressive research record, including numerous publications and conference addresses.

Professor Bennett’s creative profile includes instigating and leading projects to support creative communities in economically less fortunate countries of the Asia Pacific.

Professor Bennett said he was excited by the prospect of building on the RMIT’s profile as a vibrant and creative design and communication hub in South East Asia.

“My immediate priorities will involve reviewing our existing programs and ensuring their relevancy and validity,” Professor Bennett said.

“For the past ten years, I’ve been working in and out of South East Asia, particularly in the Philippines,” he said.

“I will thrive on the fast pace of life here in Vietnam, with all its traffic, noise and heat. What a great environment to be creative.”
