The Alliance Francaise Bangkok has invited French-Madagascan choreographer Gwen Rakotovao for a five-day workshop and performance of contemporary dance this month.

By mixing various techniques of contemporary dance, Rakotovao has designed a special five-day workshop for adults. It will focus on the body in dance movement, considering weight, space, rhythm and form. Rakotovao’s teaching approach was shaped by the various techniques she acquired during her years of practice. The goal of the workshop being to help participants discover and appreciate their bodies through movement, and to explore their potential as a mean of expression in a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.

Rakotovao will also stage a new dance inspired by the poem ‘To a Woman Passing By’ by Charles Baudelaire. After a short intermission, she will perform “Budda Jam”, where her humorous and whimsical portrait of an automaton is set to American composer Dorian Wallace’s music.

Contemporary Dance Workshop with Gwen Rakotovao: Jan. 14 to 18, 10am to 11.30am, at Dance Studio at Alliance Française Bangkok, costs B4,350. (limited to 10 participants)
