Legendary Coach Simon Redmond to Mentor Kids at Thanyapura Sports Phuket
Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club is going for gold once more, continuing their pursuit of excellence by securing three of the finest coaches in the Asia-Pacific region to guide the training of young athletes at the resort’s Sport Performance Camps taking place in July.
Joining the dedicated team of sports instructors and professionals at Thanyapura will be Australian International swimming coach, Simon Redmond, New Zealand triathlon and athletics coaching legend, Chris Pilone and fellow Kiwi and rugby all-star Troy Flavell.
“Being coached by international standard sports legends like this here at Thanyapura is sure to be a dream come true for the youngsters who sign up for our Sports Performance Camps,” says Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club Director of Sports Academy Craig Johns. “We are proud to welcome the coaches as part of the Thanyapura team and we are sure that together, we will provide the sports stars of tomorrow with the very best training available today.”
Asia’s first dedicated sports training resort, Thanyapura has established itself as the region’s leading coaching facility for all ages and abilities, hosting many international and Olympic-standard athletes including the Dutch national swim team last month, the British national swim team and now another of the swimming world’s biggest names, Simon Redmond, who is a world leader in creating swimming champions.
Redmond will be joined by Chris Pilone, regarded as one of the leading triathlon coaches in the world. Having coached 2012 Olympians Kris Gemmel and Ryan Sissons, 2004 Athens Olympic Games Triathlon gold medallist, Hamish Carter, as well as many other athletes to World Championship level in triathlon and athletics, Pilone is now bringing his renowned expertise to develop the skills and abilities of young athletes at the Sports Performance camps.
Completing the trio of sports superstars who will be helping the budding young sports aspirants hone their skills and achieve their full potential is rugby legend, Troy Flavell. As well as being an All Blacks champion, Flavell has represented New Zealand as part of the 7s team as well as the Maori All Blacks, and will be imparting the techniques and training methods garnered during his prestigious seventeen-year professional career to the sporting youngsters at Thanyapura.
The Sport Performance Camps are aimed at children aspiring to excel in fields including football, swimming, tennis, triathlon and rugby and will provide children with stimulating and exciting sport activities which foster skill development and team work.
“I think it’s an inspiring environment here for children, training alongside world class athletes, Olympians and world record holders gives a sense of tangibility to their aspirations. Training with legendary coaches at the same facilities as other international sporting greats shows them that their goals are attainable with the right outlook and support,” adds Johns.
The Sports Performance Camps are aimed at children aged 6 to 12, with Sport Excel Camps available for young athletes from 5-18 years old with advanced abilities. Thanyapura Accelerator Camps are based on regular group training sessions with specially designed programs to improve performance, develop new skills, have fun and make friends. The Sport Performance Camps will take place at TSLC in Phuket on Jul. 1 to 6 and Jul. 8 to 13.
