Next Big Author Winner Signs Book at Neilson Hays Library
British author R J Heald will visit the Neilson Hays Library on Mar. 9, to sign copies of her debut novel 27: Six Friends, One Year. Heald wrote the novel while based in Bangkok.
Heald grew up in Amersham, on the outskirts of London and graduated from Oxford University in 2004. She first came to Bangkok in 2010 with her partner, who works at the British Embassy. Since then she has been splitting her time between Bangkok and London.
In 2011, she wrote her debut novel , 27: Six Friends, One Year, whilst living in Asoke. It was published in 2012 by Dancing Parrot Press, to rave reviews. Ruth was a winner of The Next Big Author Competition in 2011 and was shortlisted for the Brit Writers Awards in 2010. 27: Six Friends, One Year was a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award.
The novel features six friends who reunite in London. From the outside their lives are enviable: from the new father, to the rich entrepreneur to the carefree traveller. But underneath their facades they are starting to unravel. Dave is made redundant, Renée’s marriage is crumbling and Katie is forced to return home to her parents after six years abroad. In a world fuelled by social media and ravaged by recession, the friends must face up to the choices they must make to lead the lives they truly want to live.
Copies of the novel will be available to purchase at the signing for B400. The signing will be from 11.30am to 1pm.
