Visual Diaries Exhibition at the Neilson Hays Library
September 3 to 29, 2013
‘Visual Diaries’ is a collaboration of charcoal drawings and oil paintings that are all visual representations of Engelbrecht’s life, existence, memory and experiences from living and travelling through South East Asia. Engelbrecht explores her surroundings in Asia, allowing all aspects of its colours, people, landscapes, cultures, to influence and inspire her artistically.
During her travels around South East Asia, Engelbrecht has photographically documented personal inspirational and significant settings from countries including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Borneo, Nepal, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Each drawing and painting is a unique ‘visual diary’ of a certain memory, experience and feeling that represents a significant experience in her life.
‘Living in South East Asia has opened my eyes in so many ways, and these adventures – (both a challenging and exciting journey) have inspired a desire to express myself, and to record the reactions of my personality to the current world I live in’, Engelbrecht says.
Lizelle Engelbrecht was born on 29 April 1983 in Cape Town, South Africa. She has been drawing and painting since a very early age, and received formal training in Fine Art at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is currently living and working in Bangkok.
Join us on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 19:00 at the Neilson Hays Library for an opening reception and a chance to meet the artists.
