Antibiotic abuse leaves Vietnam vulnerable

On Thursday, medical experts at a conference in Hanoi expressed their growing concern over the country’s widespread abuse of antibiotics. According to VnExpress, a report presented at the conference found that roughly 88 percent of antibiotic sales in Vietnam occur without a prescription. As a result, most antibiotics have ceased to be effective in combating bacterial infections, requiring doctors to prescribe antibiotic cocktails for their patients, mixing two or more drugs in order to fight infections.
