British Embassy holds same-sex marriage in Vietnam
Following the United Kingdom’s 2013 legalization of same-sex marriage, the British Embassy in Hanoi held a wedding ceremony for two British citizens, Yein Kai Lee and Sutpreedee Chinithigun, on Monday morning. The event was celebrated by the couple and their families as well as embassy staff. British law now permits same-sex couples to file their marriage registration at some diplomatic missions in other countries, including Vietnam. The embassy will also recognize marriages between a British citizen and someone of another country, however Vietnamese citizens may not be involved in a same-sex marriage ceremony, as the country has yet to legalize such unions.
