Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City opens today. Located close to Ben Thanh Market, this exciting new venue comprises a vibrant and stylish Grand Café concept that doubles as a relaxed and welcoming restaurant.
In the finest grand European tradition, Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City offers casual dining in historic surroundings. It is the modern embodiment of the Grand Café, an informal yet central neighborhood rendezvous for social interaction over drinks, a snack or a classic meal.
Executive Chef Steven Long, a finalist of Top Chef Vietnam 2014, explains “We aim to serve authentic and classic cuisine with a forward-thinking flare using the finest high quality products”. This includes healthy breakfasts, morning coffee, salads and sandwiches, afternoon tea with homemade pastries, Dutch bites, and of course, traditional continental dishes complemented by a concise and exciting wine list. The menu reveals the European DNA of the founders, with a particular emphasis on roast and grilled items using prime seasonal ingredients, sourced both locally and abroad. Guest can also indulge seafood cravings with the freshest catch of the day.
Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh is located in a century-old building where we respected the original architecture as much as possible. “First and foremost the design of a Grand Café should be timeless. As you enter the place, you should feel the history. But at the same time the design should reflect the modern city and be ready to develop with it into the distant future” says architect Rolf van Valkenburg. “For Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City we combined the old with the new in every facet of the design: the original tiling with modern resin floors; smoked oak furniture and marble counters with fresh grey and blue fabrics and finishes; classic pendant lights with contemporary mural mosaic. This harmonious mix of styles and elements is what makes our Grand Café so timelessly attractive.”
In addition to the informal restaurant, there is a long counter facing an open kitchen, a cozy lounge area, an inviting bar as well as a spacious outdoor terrace on the second floor. The terrace will host a large selection of cocktails and choice local beers like Pasteur Brewers. This is truly the perfect spot to enjoy sunset cocktails over the city’s dramatic skyline.
The location of Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City on Calmette Street, close to the Museum of Fine Arts, is right at the heart of a growing and upcoming part of downtown Ho Chi Minh City and is easily accessible to business and leisure guests alike.
“We focus on delivering friendly and professional service, together with reasonable pricing to cater both to locals and tourists” says General Manager Sander Smits. “We are very excited to host our first large event on Saturday 14 November, The Saigon Supper Club. It is an important charity event that has been co-hosted by several star chefs since 2009 and promises great entertainment for around 300 guests, all dressed in white and united to support the K.I.D.S foundation”.
Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City opens to the public the following morning on Sunday the 15th of November and will be serving a Grand Sunday Roast from 11am. Café-Restaurant Ho Chi Minh City is open every day from 7am till midnight.
