Caravelle Goes Biking for the Environment

Caravelle Goes Biking for the EnvironmentIn a show of support for this year’s World Environment Day, on the morning of June 2, the Caravelle’s senior management, department heads together with nearly 130 associates and friends set off to pedal the distance between Lam Son Square in the city centre and the Nhieu Loc Canal to raise awareness for public sanitation and cleanliness.

Donning green t-shirts and hoisting flags, banners with the slogan “Let’s keep Nhieu Loc Canal CLEAN & CLEAR”, the group cycled along Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, streets bordering Nhieu Loc Canal and part of an area that’s recently been cleared, cleaned and replanted by the city’s authorities. The Caravelle staffs hung banners in a bid to call on residents to the need of protecting and maintaining this newly created green space by handling waste properly and stop littering.

This is the Caravelle’s third year of participation in World Environment Day. In 2012, the hotel organized a flash mob on the steps of the Opera House; and in 2010, the hotel staffs planted more than 1,200 flowering bushes and spread 100 bags of soil and fertilizer around this area.

The United Nations Environment Programme founded World Environment Day in 1972 as a vehicle to stimulate worldwide awareness of environmental issues. Today, the event aims at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action.
