Customs officer caught stealing life jackets, food trays from Vietnam Airlines
On Wednesday, a Haiphong customs officer was fined after attempting to steal life jackets and food trays from a Vietnam Airlines flight. Security personnel at Tan Son Nhat airport came across an unattended bag containing these items, along with a laptop, near the airport’s taxi stand. When the customs officer later identified himself in hopes of claiming the stolen goods, Vietnam Airlines discovered that its Airbus 321, which had arrived from Haiphong earlier that day, was missing three life jackets. Though airport police attempted to impose a fine, the customs officer refused, claiming that he had been framed. The case was then transferred to local police, where the customs officer and his wife insisted that their ten-year-old daughter had taken the items without their knowledge. According to Vietnam Airlines, theft is a common occurrence on their planes, where passengers often walk off with blankets, food trays and bathroom items.
