Local artist displays maps made of cemetery soil
On Friday, local artist Vo Van Hai of Dak Lak province unveiled three maps of Vietnam to honour the country’s war heroes. Made from soil which Hai collected in various martyrs’ cemeteries across Vietnam, the maps took over three years to complete and cost Hai, who personally visited each location, his downtown house in HCMC, which he and his wife sold in order to continue his passion project. “The remains of a number of war martyrs can’t be found until now. So what I did is creating the Vietnamese maps with the soil which is symbolic of their souls in recognition of their massive contributions to the country, while arousing patriotism among today’s generations at the same time,” says Hai.
