Local officials declare Saigon resident oldest person in Vietnam, possibly the world
On Wednesday, local officials recognized 121-year-old Saigon resident Nguyen Thu Tru as the oldest living person in Vietnam and likely the world. Born in 1893, Tru is a mother of 11 and currently lives with her youngest son, who is 72. Director of the Vietnam Guinness Book Centre Le Tran Truong An confirmed that the elderly woman has shown sufficient evidence of her birthdate, including documents from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of South Vietnam and the French colonial government. If recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, Nguyen Thu Tru would beat out the previous record-holder, 116-year-old Misao Okawa of Japan, for the title of world’s oldest living woman.
