Malaysia strengthens its overseas medical tourism presence in Vietnam
The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council or better known as MHTC strengthens its overseas medical tourism presence in Vietnam with its world-class healthcare facilities and service offerings.
“Mr. Sofian Akmal Abd. Karim, Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City officiated the new office. Mr. Sofian commented: “Through the Malaysia Healthcare centre in Ho Chi Minh City, we would be able to address inquiries and facilitate our Vietnamese friends who are seeking quality healthcare and treatment in Malaysia”.
The set-up of the Malaysia Healthcare’s place of work is located at 3A Floor, Nikko Building, No. 374-374B Vo Van Tan St, District 3, HCMC is yet another milestone for Malaysia. Malaysia is set to pave the way in further positioning Malaysia as a healthcare travel destination offering its unique healthcare proposition providing quality care, ease of accessibility and affordability for the Vietnamese. The office shall serve as a medical travel assistance and information center providing end-to-end facilitation service.
Established in 2009 by the government of Malaysia, MHTC is the primary agency tasked to develop the healthcare travel industry and promote Malaysia as the preferred destination for healthcare travel in the region. In Vietnam, MHTC has appointed Insmart, an insurance service management, healthcare provider and one of the leading Third Party Administrator (TPA) providers as a its key strategic partner.
Malaysia has been ranked one of the top destination for medical tourism in the region with more than 880,000 medical tourists coming from all over the world in 2014. There are over 250 private hospitals in Malaysia. However, only hospitals that are well-equipped and catered to receive and handle medical tourism are approved and registered to be a participating healthcare provider in Malaysia. Top 5 highly sought after treatments in Malaysia are; Oncology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology and In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). Malaysian hospitals boasts a 66% success rate in its IVF treatments with global average being only 50%.

By establishing a physical presence in Ho Chi Minh, we hope to reach out better to Vietnamese healthcare seekers in a timely manner, allowing us to serve them better, hence strengthening our vision to be the preferred healthcare travel destination in this region. We are confident that the number of healthcare travelers from Vietnam will increase with our physical presence in Vietnam in our quest to offer healthcare seekers a seamless end-to-end service”.
Malaysia Healthcare obligates strict regulatory guidelines for medical offerings ensuring quality care combined with the commitment and backing of its Government, strong public-private sector partnerships and the unwavering support of its people in providing the warm Malaysian hospitality.
Amongst others the Malaysia Healthcare center in Ho Chi Minh will offer information on hospitals offering niche treatment which are most sought by the Vietnamese. Information on hospitals such as the Institute Jantung Negara (National Heart Institute) a leading heart tertiary institution in Malaysia and Beverly Wilshire Medical Centre specialising in cosmetic and stem cell offerings for the promotion of health, anti-ageing and disease prevention. The office will also facilitate inquiries pertaining to niche medical treatment that are not easily accessible or is expensive in Vietnam such as IVF and PGD, cancer treatments, stem cell, heart related treatments and so on.
