One millionth Vietnamese-language domain name celebrated in Hanoi

On Monday, officials in Hanoi celebrated the one millionth Vietnamese-language domain name on the internet. According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang, the number of Vietnamese-language domain names has quadrupled over the last 17 years, making Vietnam the largest owner of domain names in its national language in the world. Usually ending in .vn, these domain names are written entirely in Vietnamese characters, including tones and accent marks, and are specially coded to allow Vietnamese netizens to access the web in their own language.
