Opening of Couleurs d’Asie by Réhahn – Saigon

Hoi An-based photographer Réhahn unveiled his gallery, Couleurs d’Asie by Réhahn – Saigon, on June 1, 2017 on the historical Dong Khoi Street in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (151/7 Don Khoi Street, District 1, next to L’Usine). The gallery features some of Réhahn’s most well known pieces, displaying work from Vietnam, Malaysia, India, and Cuba.

The space is divided into two rooms, the first offers a special focus on pieces from Vietnam, and the other on other countries and his “Limited Edition” Fine Art photography, which sells for upwards of 2,000 USD per photo. A recent patron purchased his famous “Best Friends” photo for 16,000 USD, making it the most expensive Fine Art photo in ever sold in Vietnam (Forbes, January 2017). Only three Fine Art prints of “Best Friends” were produced and they now hang in private collections in Vietnam, Australia, and France.

Notably, the gallery also displays for the first time in Vietnam such a broad collection of his pictures from Cuba. Réhahn has a special relationship with the island and has visited it 12 times in the past 10 years. His work is featured in the Asian House Museum in Havana, Cuba.

“Hidden Smile” – one of Réhahn’s most recognizable photographs, which now hangs in The Women’s Museum in Hanoi, Vietnam. Mrs. Xong, the subject of the photograph, travelled to Hanoi for the occasion.

Since the photo was taken, Mrs. Xong and Réhahn have become good friends and regularly visit each other.

Important Dates

January 15, 2014: Publication of his book, « Vietnam, Mosaic of Contrasts », comprising of 150 photographs which depict the country’s diversity. The book, sold in 29 countries, became a bestseller in Vietnam.

October 25, 2014: Réhahn captured the photo « Best Friends » depicting Kim Luan, a small M’nông girl of 6 years, praying to an elephant. Thanks to the press agency Caters (New York), it was published in more than 25 countries across the world, and became the cover photo for prestigious media such as Conde Nast Traveler, The Times, National Geographic, to cite a few.

December 2, 2014: The renowned website, Bored Panda, ranked Réhahn 4th of the 10 best portrait and world travel photographers, just after Steve McCurry, Lee Jeffries, and Jimmy Nelson. The article went viral and was translated in more than 20 languages.
