Saigon Comedy Nights Returns at Cargo Bar
Brace yourself. If you thought that those belly-splitting gags would let you rest up for a while, then think again. Saigon Comedy Nights is returning on Tuesday Jun. 18, but this time to a new venue, Cargo Bar.
Once again, the hilarity will be aided and abetted by two international comics together with increasingly accomplished stand-ups from the local scene. From the UK will come the not-so-notorious Stephen Grant, who has been described by Time Out as “the consummate comedian”. He will be followed at arms’ length by Australian Steve Allison. Characterized by one rag as “The Gold Coast’s favourite stand-up comedian,” whatever that may mean, his cool and casual approach is apparently “Aussie humour at its best”. And as ever, in his last gig in this country — weep, weep, sob, sob — before transporting his deadpan veneer to the metropolis of Shanghai, will be Merseyside regular and reformed car thief, Chris Baker.
To add to the show, we will be flambeeing some recently deceased animals that we would love to promise you died laughing. Some people call it a barbecue. And beer, yes that amber nectar of all drinks, will be going for VND50,000 a glass. Wine and mixed drinks will also avoid the touch of inflation, hitting the heady heights of VND80,000.
So get yourself down to Cargo Bar at 8pm on Tuesday Jun. 18 for the continuation of one of Saigon’s most uniquest of unique nights. Considering the calibre we have on stage, it’s a great deal, too. VND250,000 gets you a, erm, hilarious meal of either burger and fries or hotdog and fries, all washed down with an icy cold San Miguel draft beer. The comic relief comes on the house. And oh, Cargo Bar is at 7 Nguyen Tat Thanh, Q4 in that venue otherwise known as Q4.
Saigon Comedy Nights is presented by Comedy Club Asia.
Steve Allison knows how to make people laugh, and as soon as Steve picks up the microphone, it’s obvious. With a cool and casual approach, hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed his clever style of comedy. The confidence and experience earned from performing over a thousand live shows is clear. With a natural sense of humour and quick wit, Steve’s show is a well crafted mix of snappy one-liners, hilarious stories, funny home truths and current topics. It’s Aussie humour at its best.

Along with his clutch of awards and critically-acclaimed Stephen Grant must surely have right to the title of hardest working comedian in the UK. Regular compere of Krater Comedy Club at Komedia, which has won Best Comedy Venue in the South for an unprecedented 7 years, Stephen still finds the time to headline and MC gigs all over the country as well as being a regular guest on The Cutting Edge, deputising presenter on BBC Southern Counties Radio, warming up and performing on some of the biggest comedy shows on TV and emceeing for numerous corporate events.
It is not hard to see why Stephen is so popular. He possesses an energy and intellect that combined make for dynamite comedy. His speed and dynamism create a magical energy which has audiences rapt and hanging on his every word. “Consummate comedian” Time Out, London
