Saigon Melbourne Cup Carnival Dinner to turn heads
The Australian Chamber of Commerce (AusCham) today announced details of its 2nd Annual Saigon Melbourne Cup Carnival Dinner. The 300 seat event celebrates an iconic, world class Australian event, the Melbourne Cup Horse race, with a Vietnamese twist.
Organisers are promising a night of fashion, glamour, horses, fine food and sparkling wine and it will be held at the new Reverie Hotel in Saigon’s central Dong Khoi Street on Saturday, 24 October, 10 days prior to the actual Melbourne Cup which is held on the 1st Tuesday in November.
On the night, Fashions on the Field will feature prominent Vietnamese millner, Kan Kanemura, who will seek to blend Vietnam’s traditions with that of the Melbourne Cup. And then the fun starts when guests take to the cat walk themselves attempting to surpass the feats of the professionals in their quest to be judged best-dressed male or best-dressed female.
Also slated for the event will be a number Phantom Flemington Horse Races which comprise horse racing videos screened on an enormous LED screen. All identifying aspects of the races have been removed so that no one can google results. Guests bid cash for the right to own a horse and those with a winning horse receive fantastic prizes from generous sponsors. The entire amount of money raised from the horses is donated to AusCham’s designated charity, Water Safety Vietnam.
Phil Johns, Executive Director of AusCham said: “AusCham’s gala balls have enjoyed a great history here in HCMC but the Saigon Melbourne Cup Carnival Dinner takes it to a new level. It’s a uniquely Australian event in a Vietnamese setting. One guest last year, for example, described it as ‘Australia’s Oktoberfest’ “.
“For anyone who has a soft spot for Australia, including the Aussie Alumni, this is the cultural hook you can’t overlook.”
