12 April is officially Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day and, of course, there are plenty of places across town to get involved. Here are our top spots:
The Elbow Room Bistro & Diner – For the puritans, go for the thick multigrain sandwich loaded with Emmental, cheddar and brie. The smoked ham, cranberry and brie sarnie is also a perfectly acceptable method of celebration. Both VND200,000.
Con Bo Map – In addition to its burgers, the team at Con Bo Map have created a range of cheese and bread-based concoctions to die for, from classic toasted sandwiches to panini and baguettes, stuffed with everything from cheddar and red onions to mozzarella and grilled peppers.
Pasteur Street Brewing Company – Lazy lunches don’t get much better. With a glass of Jasmine IPA in one hand and a thick, gooey wedge of bread and cheddar in the other, what more could you possibly need? They even throw in a homemade tomato soup for dunking. VND125,000 +VAT (set lunch combo price, including a small beer).
Sticky Fingers Grill – If you can stay away from the barbecue for just a second, Sticky Fingers offers a straight-up, no gimmicks, grilled cheese sandwich for VND80,000. If a rack of ribs is too much to resist, why not have the sandwich as a starter, or even a dessert?
Black Cat – Not one, not two, but four varieties of cheese go into this one. Gouda, pepper jack, cheddar and Swiss. Captured between thick slices of marble rye bread, grilled in butter and served with tomato soup, it’s yours for VND164,000.
Why we’re all waiting until 12 April, we’ve no idea. Tuck in.
