A new restaurant which has achieved a Michelin star in its sister branch has opened in Ho Cho Minh City, Somtum Der.
Somtum Der focuses on the food of Isan, a region in northeastern Thailand, and its geographical location means Vietnamese and Laotian dishes also influence the food.
It includes meals like somtum (papaya salad), larb (minced meat spicy salad) and grilled dishes usually are offered in Thai restaurants around the world.
Other top dishes include larb pla duek (minced catfish spicy salad), sa pok kai tod der (deep fried chicken thigh), moo ping kati sod (grilled coconut milk marinated pork) and tom zap kradook on (pork knuckles spicy soup).
Somtum Der (Bangkok) – der meaning ‘warm invitation – was founded in 2012 and in the following year it launched another venue in New York City which is listed in the Michelin Guide New York City 2016 for one-star Michelin.
