Tourist arrivals in Vietnam decrease this year
There has been an 11.1 percent annual drop in tourist arrivals to Vietnam this year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. While October ordinarily marks the beginning of the tourist season here, only a little more than 559,000 arrivals have been reported this month. Arrivals have also fallen across all nationalities, especially Finnish arrivals with a 59 percent drop and Russian arrivals with an unexpected 32 percent drop. Moreover, a survey from the EU’s Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Program found few tourists returning to Vietnam, finding that only six percent of 3,000 visitors to the country’s five top destinations (Sapa, Halong Bay, Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An) returned to Vietnam).
