Vietnam’s transportation minister is calling for swift and severe punishment after local budget carrier VietJet attempted to cover up an incident in which one of its aircrafts aircraft accidentally landed at the wrong airport on June 19. The flight, which was supposed to be bound for Dalat, instead arrived at Nha Trang’s Cam Ranh airport. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), VietJet’s dispatcher and flight crew failed to declare its change of flight plans, prompting the mix-up which brought 200 passengers to the wrong destination. The airline originally excused the error by blaming weather patterns, however VietJet has since owned up to the mistake.
