VietJet responds to backlash over racy promotional photos

Low-cost carrier VietJet Air has come under fire once again for its use of bikini-clad women as a promotional tool. In a series of photos posted to Facebook last Thursday by lingerie model Ngoc Trinh, women in red-and-yellow swimsuits and thigh-high stockings posed on a runway beside one of the carrier’s planes, drawing plenty of criticism from local netizens. VietJet’s development director, Vu Pham Nguyen Tung, denies that these images are part of the carrier’s next promotional campaign, saying that they were simply part of a test shoot and that the airline has “yet to decide if we will use these photos or not.” This is not the first time VietJet has run into such trouble; in 2012, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam fined the airline VND20 million after flight attendants in bikinis performed a Hawaiian dance during the carrier’s inaugural flight from Saigon to Nha Trang.
