Vietnamese airports declare war on birds

In the wake of several bird strikes this year, the Central Aviation Authority of Vietnam has instructed airports across the country to step up measures against local birds, limiting water and food sources nearby and making use of traps and other equipment to prevent the wild animals from coming near their man-made counterparts. Bird strikes, which typically occur during take-off or landing, can have serious consequences for an aircraft and those on board, as the animals can get caught in a plane’s engine, damaging its machinery.
